Organic Poster Design
No its not a new, clever design technique or web fad, just the subject of my latest piece of graphic design. I got to flex my creative muscles over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it!
My girlfriend is currently doing an EYPS (Early Years Professional Status) course at UWE in Bristol and as a part of her coursework she needed to produce a poster. The poster content was over my head, it had to display a few points and the arguments for and against those points. She had the idea of a garden scene, and wanted a very organic and natural look to the poster, but as she is not a graphic designer she turned to me for help.
I jumped at the chance as I had been looking for an excuse to design something along these lines having seen some awesome examples floating around the web. The sites I normally work on as part of my day job are publishing sites and online communities and they the clients tend to want something functional and not overly graphical, there are some exceptions but not many.
Well, here is my effort:

I took my inspiration from a cross between Little Big Planet and Boagworld.com, I wanted organic and fun but obviously I didn't want the design to detract from the content that my girlfriend had worked hard on putting together... after all this is a childcare / education based course not an exercise in graphic design!
Anywho, feedback welcome! I'm quite pleased with it for a first attempt at this sort of thing, I actually found deisgning for print for the first time in ages quite liberating in that I didn't have to worry about how things would look when they were repeated with CSS, I could overlay elements without worrying about how certain browsers would handle it... *sigh* we can only hope that day comes for the web!
Thinking of stealing my own design to use in a Flash or Unity game... we shall see!
